New underpass opens at the Dmitrovskoye Motorway-Moscow Ring Road interchange

Sergei Sobyanin attended the opening of a new underpass and a railway overpass built as part of the Dmitrovskoye Motorway-Moscow Ring Road interchange project.

“We continue the construction along the Dmitrovskoye Motorway. For example, we have already opened transit overpasses in the town of Severny and the interchange at the Dolgoprudnenskoye and Dmitrovskoye motorways. The third large project is the construction of the Dmitrovskoye Motorway-Moscow Ring Road (MKAD) interchange. The first phase of the project was completed last year, and now we’re launching the second phase. I hope that by August, this project will be done,” the Mayor said.

During the projects second phase, 1.3 kilometres of roads were built: a 724 metre underpass on the exit ramp from the Dmitrovskoye Motorway to the MKAD, a 234 metre overpass across the Savyolovskoye railway line and a 41 metre exit ramp from the overpass to the MKAD, plus another underpass linked with the 284 metre outbound underpass along the Dmitrovskoye Motorway.

The project will be completed in August, so this area will be nice, clean and have grass and new asphalt by City Day. Its a remarkable day today: we are attending the launch of this exceptional underpass, the general contractors president, Dmitry Simarev, reported.

The Dmitrovskoye Motorway-MKAD interchange project includes the construction of a left-turn overpass on the Dmitrovskoye Motorway leading inbound to the MKAD (completed); an underpass complex and an overpass over the Savyolovskoye railway line (completed); and a pedestrian underpass near the Mark platform (completed). Plans also call for the reconstruction of exit ramps on the clockwise and anticlockwise sides of the MKAD to the Dmitrovskoye Motorway and other exit ramps, acceleration lanes and bus lay-bys.

The Dmitrovskoye Motorway-MKAD project, which began in March 2012, includes the replacement of the old cloverleaf interchange with a more efficient flyover design. This will increase the capacity of the Dmitrovskoye Motorway and the northern section of the MKAD.

In all, the Dmitrovskoye Motorway programme beyond the Moscow Ring Road includes three projects:

1. A rebuilt section of the Dmitrovskoye Motorway from the Dolgoprudnenskoye Motorway to the city boundaries, which includes the construction of two transit overpasses on the Dmitrovskoye Motorway (opened); side roads along the motorway; exit ramps to the nearby residential areas; two pedestrian crossings (completed) and ten public transit stops.

In all, 10.4 kilometres of roads will be built as part of this project.

To minimise noise levels, 4.8 kilometres of sound walls will be installed.

The major structural components of the project are complete; other parts of the project will be done this year.

2. A two-level interchange at the Dmitrovskoye and Dolgoprudnenskoye motorways (it was opened on 5 September 2013). In all, 4.5 kilometres of roads will be built as part of this project.

3. The Dmitrovskoye Motorway-MKAD interchange, to be opened in several phases. About 10.8 kilometres of roads will be built as part of this project.

In all, 25.7 kilometres of roads will be built as part of the Dmitrovskoye Motorway project.

Also, in order to avoid a bottleneck on the Moscow-Moscow Region border, the Federal Road Agency (Rosavtodor) plans to widen the Dmitrovskoye Motorway beyond the Moscow city boundaries.

The updated Dmitrovskoye Motorway-MKAD interchange will significantly increase the motorways capacity (the number of lanes in each direction will be increased from three to five); provide more efficient public transit routes; and increase transport safety by constructing new pedestrian underpasses and overpasses.

The residents of the Severny District, one of the most promising areas, and those who work there, will benefit most from the new Dmitrovskoye Motorway.

In all, 25 kilometres of roads, interchanges and underpasses will be built as part of this project. Its a major infrastructure project in the city, and a very important one, not only for the Severny District, but also for future districts, Mr Sobyanin said.

He added that according to the area planning design, about 1.5 million square metres of buildings will be built in the Severny District. This includes not only housing, but also technology parks, business centres and social facilities. Well finish the construction of the core facility soon (Phystech-XXI) in the new district, he said.

The first buildings of the technology park of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Phystech-XXI, have been completed. This technology park will create 1,500 jobs. Plans call for the construction of over 1.6 million square metres of buildings, including a research and exhibition complex, hotel, business centre, residential buildings and social facilities.
